Sumit Nagal breaks into ATP Top 100 for the first time after title run at Challenger Chennai

Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal on Sunday broke into the ATP Top 100 rankings for the first time in his career. Nagal achieved the feat after winning the ATP Challenger Chennai against Italy’s Luca Nardi. The Indian tennis player, who has been having a great season, achieved the career best ranking of 98 with the win. Nagal got the better of Nardi in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4.

After a dismal 2022, Nagal’s ranking fell to 500 last year. Nevertheless, he finished 2023 ranked 138 thanks to a fantastic season. At the Australian Open 2024, the 26-year-old played incredible tennis with momentum on his side.

After winning all three of his qualifying round matches, he advanced to the second round by defeating Alexander Bublik, the 23rd-ranked player in the world, in the first round. Even though he ultimately lost, he had a great start to the year.

He backed up his Australian Open performance with a fantastic win in the tournament in Chennai. Sumit did not lose a single set in the tournament.
