Team India’s luck with coin tosses continues to horrendous. In the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI, it was Mitchell Marsh who won the toss and put India into bat at Adelaide. It marked 17 straight ODIs that India have failed to win the toss, a run that stretches almost 2 years to when Rohit Sharma was captain.
708 days and counting: Change in captain but no change in luck
India last won a toss in an ODI game during the semi-final of the 2023 World Cup. Since then, neither Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul nor Shubman Gill have called the toss right. In fact for Shubman, the new captain has lost 9 of his 10 tosses.
While there is no science to calling the toss right, it is bizzare that India’s run has gone this long. To win a toss, simply put, is a 50-50 chance. India’s 17 consecutive coin tosses is a very rare occurrence with only 0.000763 percent chance of it happening.

It has been a mixed bag of results for India since their toss record began. India lost the World Cup final and suffered a series defeat to Sri Lanka. However, the Men in Blue also went unbeaten and clinched another Champions Trophy title earlier this year. Their second string ODI side also snatched a series win in the Rainbow nation.
