IND vs ENG 2nd Test: India clinch sensational win at Vizag

India dominated the day’s play, right from the first session. The hosts bowled skillfully with patience even as Zak Crawley was proving to be a menace for the side. Nightwatchman Rehan Ahmed (23) was the first to depart as Axar Patel provided the Men in Blue with the first breakthrough.

England’s Hyderabad hero Ollie Pope was the next to depart. The batter played with pure Bazball intent from ball one, mixing it up with a variety of shots including sweeps and reverse sweeps. However, a sharp catch (in 0.45 s) from Rohit Sharma at the slips off Ashwin’s delivery brought the curtains down on Pope’s innings.

In came the injured Joe Root next, who tried to go all guns blazing. He struck two fours and a six in 10 deliveries before Ashwin struck once again, as he moved to 499 Test wickets.

England opener and danger man Zak Crawley was the penultimate batter to depart at the stroke of lunch. Probably the only batter to play with a mix of patience and aggression, Crawley scored his second fifty of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test. India managed to get rid of the opener after the Indian skipper won the gamble by bowling Kuldeep Yadav.

Yadav managed to trap Crawley for an LBW, which umpire Marias Erasmus signalling not out as the on-field decision. Sharma decided to review it in the last minute after much convincing from Yadav. Turns out, India did get their hands on the 5th wicket.

Review…..successful!

The last delivery before lunch saw Jonny Bairstow depart, thanks to Bumrah. Few words were exchanged between an animated Ashwin and the England star as the latter walked off the field.

England skipper Ben Stokes (11) was the first to depart after lunch after a brilliant run-out from Shreyas Iyer.

Bumrah struck once again to get rid of Ben Foakes, bringing an end to the frustrating partnership between him and Tom Hartley. Hartley, meanwhile, survived a couple of reviews including one that prevented Ashwin from reaching the 500 wickets milestone.

Mukesh Kumar struck for the first time in the Test as he got rid of Shoaib Bashir, sending him packing for a duck. Bumrah had the last laugh as he got rid of the defiant Hartley. The pacer finished the game with figures of 3-46. Meanwhile, Ashwin – who is stuck on 499 Test wickets – finished with figures of 3-72.
