Can Pakistan still make it to Asia Cup final, and setup India clash? Scenarios explained

So, we are done with two matches in the Super 4s of the Asia Cup 2025, and India and Bangladesh have registered wins in their encounters. But then these two wins don’t really guarantee a place to the teams in the final. One question after the IND vs PAK match on Sunday is, can the arch-rivals still make it to the summit clash and play India for the third time in this year’s tournament?

Pakistan’s chances of making Asia Cup final

Let’s break this down. India has an excellent NRR of +0.689 in the Super 4, while the same figure is in negative for the Pakistanis. Bangladesh have +0.121 while Sri Lanka have -0.121. So, PAK need to win their next two matches vs Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to qualify.

Team Mat Won Lost NR Pts NRR
India 1 1 0 0 2 +0.689
Bangladesh 1 1 0 0 2 0.121
Sri Lanka 1 0 1 0 0 -0.121
Pakistan 1 0 1 0 0 -0.689

The first step would be to beat Sri Lanka.. That would oust the Islanders, after they lost to Bangladesh on Saturday. Post that, IND would face BAN, and if the former win again, India would go through. That would need PAK to beat Bangladesh in their next match. Then they would also go through. India and Pakistan would play again on the 28th.

A lot depends on how BAN & SL fare

But then, there are a lot of ifs and buts still. If Bangladesh go on to beat India in the September 24 game, then it could get difficult for Pakistanis. India with a win against Sri Lanka, would seal their route to the final. Additionally, if IND lose to SL, and PAK doesn’t win one of their matches, then three teams would be on two points each. Then it would boil down to the NRR of teams.

Meanwhile, after a six-wicket loss to Suryakumar Yadav’s team, Salman Ali Agha and men will face Lanka on Tuesday. In a way, it is a do-or-die match for the neighbours.
