Chris Woakes bats left handed in final day drama

Chris Woakes suffered a dislocated shoulder on Day 1 of the IND vs ENG 5th Test. He did not take further part in the game and did not even bat in the first innings for England. However with the game heading down to the wire, Woakes decided to walk in after the fall of the 9th wicket. The veteran had his arm in a sling and under his sweater as he walked to the non-striker’s end. The Oval acknowledged his efforts, applauding his bravery in trying to save his team.

Woakes did not have to face a delivery, but his presence saw England run pretty close to a series win. Should he have, he would have played with one hand. The hosts eventually fell 6 runs short with Mohammed Siraj picking up a five-wicket haul. Earlier, Rishabh Pant had batted with a fractured foot in the series. The left hander wore a moon boot off the field but walked into bat and scored a fifty in the draw at Manchester.
