Joe Root achieves big record in IND vs ENG Lord’s Test, becomes first player to score 3000 runs vs India

Joe Root returned amongst the runs in the IND vs ENG 3rd Test in Lord’s. The 34-year-old struggled so far in the India vs England series, but turned a corner to break a couple of records on Thursday. The former England captain has the most runs against India in Test cricket, smashing the 3000-run mark.

Joe Root has been a thorn in India’s flesh across conditions. The 34-year-old has 12 half-centuries and 10 centuries in 58 innings. He averages a 50+ score in less every 2.6 innings against the Men in Blue. Root averages in excess of 76 at home, while his average of 45 in India is also commendable.

On Thursday, Root was at his fluent best on one of his favourite grounds. The 34-year-old averages 55.75at Lord’s, with more then 2000 runs at the venue. With Ben Stokes opting to bat, the England star made full use of the batting conditions on a flat wicket. England lost two wickets in an over to Nitish Kumar Reddy, but Root ensured that they did not collapse in a consolidating partnership with Ollie Pope.

Most runs against India in Test cricket

Joe Root is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to run-scoring against India. The 34-year-old is ahead of Ricky Ponting and former teammate Alastair Cook. Among active cricketers, Steve Smith is the only player in top 5. The England star also has 10 centuries against India, the second most behind Smith (11).
