India Cricket Team’s records at Lord’s

India Cricket Team have had some memorable moments at the Mecca of cricket. The World Cup 1983 victory was one, NatWest Trophy Final was the other while India’s first Test win at Lord’s was also memorable. Team India first played a match at Lord’s back in 1932. However, they had to wait for 54 years to claim their first Test victory at the venue in 1986. Overall, in Tests, Team India haven’t had a great record, winning just three matches out of 19. In ODIs, India have had mixed results, winning four and losing as many on nine ocassions. India will take on England in their 3rd Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on July 10.

Lord’s Cricket Ground, located in London, is often called the “Home of Cricket.” Established in 1814 by Thomas Lord, it is the headquarters of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and hosts Test matches, ODIs, and domestic cricket. Renowned for its iconic Pavilion, the Long Room, and the famous slope affecting play, Lord’s has witnessed historic moments, including India’s 1983 World Cup triumph and their 1971 Test victory. With a capacity of around 30,000, it blends tradition with modern facilities, hosting the MCC Museum and the oldest cricket fixture, Eton vs Harrow. Lord’s remains a global cricketing pilgrimage site.

India’s Test records at Lord’s, London

Lord’s is where heroes are made. The ground has given India many heroes to cherish. India first played a Test match at this venue back in 1932 under captain Col CK Nayudu. But it wasn’t until 1986 when India won a Test match at Lord’s. Kapil Dev’s daredevils. Chetan Sharma’s fifer and Dilip Vengsarkar’s century made the difference.

However, in recent years, the tide has turned. In their last five Tests at the Lord’s India have won twice with one ending in a draw. KL Rahul’s century powered India to victory.

Who can forget India’s 1983 World Cup triumph. Cricket in India changed forever when Kapil Dev lifted the trophy at Lord’s balcony. But that wasn’t the only defining moment. Sourav Ganguly-led India chased down a record 326-run target, thanks to two youngsters Yuvraj Singh and Mohd Kaif in 2002 NatWest Trophy final. That showed the world that India were a threat wherever they played.
