Ravindra Jadeja, the Test batter, finally fires; smashes 2nd Test fifty in 15 innings

Ravindra Jadeja has hit a fantastic half-century when the chips were down. On Day 1 of the second Test against England in Birmingham, Jadeja came to bat after twin strikes that saw India lose both Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy quickly. But superbly, Jaddu put up a much-needed stand alongside captain Shubman Gill.

Taking the mantle from 211/5 at one point, Jadeja and Gill took India past 350 and toiled with the English bowlers. Jadeja, in particular, played with intent. It was a breath of fresh air, not leaving out any opportunities to hit boundaries. Jadeja, whose career strike rate is around 55, struck his 23rd Test fifty in 80 balls.

It is a fantastic news for India, considering Jadeja had a poor Border-Gavaskar Trophy and an awful first Leeds Test. At the BGT, Jadeja missed the first two Tests before making not much of a difference in the last three games. While he did hammer a well-made 77 in Brisbane, his overall runs tally got to only 135. He had an average of 27. Even with the ball, he picked up only four wickets.

Now, in Birmingham, Jajeja hit his second Test fifty in last 15 Test innings. His form is ever so crucial for India, especially in SENA countries. In the previous match when he failed with scores of 25 and 11, India looked in trouble.
