At the stroke of lunch on day one of the second India vs England Test in Vizag, batsman Shubman Gill threw away his wicket once more. The talented player from Punjab played some decent shots for his attacking 34 from 46 balls, striking five boundaries, but a James Anderson special, removed Gill.
Once again, he offered to play a shot on a delivery that was well outside the off stump. But here, the credit should be given to Anderson, who set him up brilliantly. In the over, he brought the ball in, to Gill, that he defended solidly. But the fifth ball of the 28th over saw Anderson change his line, as Gill edged it to the keeper Ben Foakes.
This means, Gill’s poor form continues. His career average has dropped below 30, in the 22 Tests he has played. In 2022, he averaged 29.66 in Tests, which became 28.66 the following year. In 2024, he average a poor 20, with not even a fifty to his name.
In addition to that, Gill also has a poor record against Anderson. The English great has bowled 72 balls so far to Gill in seven innings. While the Indian has scored only 39 runs, he has been dismissed five times by him.
