Would be disappointed if they don’t win: Michael Atherton ahead of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test

Former England captain Michael Atherton has stated that he’ll be disappointed if the visitors don’t go on to win the series after going 1-0 in the series. Ben Stokes and co. have claimed a remarkable comeback win over heavy favorites India in Hyderabad.

Just a day before the start of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test, the former skipper has expressed that anything but a series win will be a disappointing outcome for the England cricket team.

In his column for The Times, Atherton stated how the momentum has now shifted in England’s favor. He wrote:

“England have moved from heavy second favourites to a situation where it would be a disappointment now if they did not win the series.”

On the change in momentum ahead of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test and the India cricket team missing two key players, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahil, he wrote:

“Such an outcome, so unexpected and so unbelievable given where both teams were on first innings, must have a huge psychological impact, especially given the quick turnaround and the injuries to two of India’s key players, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul. England have an excellent chance of building on their lead.”
