The Major League Cricket (MLC) Match 2 had all the ingredients of a blockbuster thriller—fifties, fightbacks, late drama—but it was Trent Boult’s bizarre run-out that ended up stealing the spotlight in the clash between MI New York and Texas Super Kings at the Oakland Coliseum.
Boult’s run-out had everyone in splits
With MI New York needing 27 off 20 balls and the game finely poised, Boult and Tajinder Dhillon attempted to keep hopes alive by pushing for a tight second run. Dhillon had glided a back-of-a-length delivery past the short third man, and the pair charged for two. But in the chaos, Boult lost his bat while running towards the striker’s end.
Then came the classic “yes-no-wait-go” confusion as Boult paused, turned, and decided to run again—all while being batless and nowhere near the crease. Mohsin’s throw from the deep was sharp, and Devon Conway whipped the bails off in a flash. Boult, trying to dive back with nothing in hand, was well short. It was the third run-out in 11 balls for MINY, following the dismissals of Keiron Pollard and Monank Patel.
Late drama sees Texas Super Kings edge thriller
Texas Super Kings, led by Faf du Plessis, posted 185 on the back of a 79-run stand between Devon Conway (66 off 44) and Calvin Savage (50* off 34), rescuing the side from 98/5 in the 12th over. In reply, MI New York suffered early setbacks but recovered through Monank Patel’s 52 and Michael Bracewell’s 39. When Nicholas Pooran got out off Noor Ahmad, it looked all over for MI New York.
Kieron Pollard lit up the chase with a 38-run burst before a brilliant run-out from Daryl Mitchell turned the tide. Mitchell then delivered a nerveless final over, defending nine runs to secure a thrilling three-run win for Texas.
