On what happened to be an eventful day in the world of cricket, all eyes were on India batter KL Rahul, who was to take part in the second unofficial Test between India A and England Lions, and he did not disappoint. Coming into the side straight after the IPL 2025, the stylish Rahul adapted to the English conditions wonderfully, slamming 116 from 168 deliveries on the first day itself.
Elsewhere, leg-spinner Piyush Chawla ended his competitive cricket career after almost two decades of service. Not to forget, there was yet another development in the Bengaluru stampede case, where a fan filed a case against Virat Kohli. So, without any further delay, let’s jump straight to the details of these stories.

KL Rahul Seals Opener Spot
The India A team had a great start once again, to the second Test vs England Lions, as KL Rahul notched his century in his first outing itself. That ensured that the visitors went on to score overall 300 runs on the first day itself. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhimanyu Easwaran failed at the top of the innings.

Dhruv Jurel Makes a Statement
Three fifties in as many innings in the India A series; Jurel has made it clear to the coach and the captain Shubman Gill, that he ought to be in the playing XI for the first Test. He got out for 57 in 82 deliveries, but gave a good account of himself.

Sarfaraz Khan Axed, What Happens Next
One must also talk about Sarfaraz Khan. Despite scoring 90-odd runs in the 1st match, he was overlooked for this one. The management could have slotted him in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy, but then it seems his fate is sealed, at least for now. He isn’t in any consideration for Team India spot.

Piyush Chawla Bids Adieu to Cricket
After playing 38 matches for India across different formats, Chawla, the leg spinner quit the game. During a career spanning close to 20 years, Chawla won two World Cup trophies — the 2007 T20 World Cup, and then the 2011 World Cup as well. He is one of the highest wicket-takers in IPL as well.

After Archer, Mark Wood to be Back too
In a good news for England team, their express pacer Mark Wood would be able to make his comeback, after a long surgery layoff, during the fourth India Test, during end of July. For now, he has started bowling a bit.
