Bengaluru police have registered an FIR against IPL 2025 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). Event management company DNA Network have also been charged in connection with the stampede that led to the death of 11 people. The case was charged with criminal negligence after 47 people were injured outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
RCB, KSCA charged with negligence after Stampede
As per News18, the Cubbon Park Police in Bengaluru have charged RCB, event company DNA Network and KSCA following the stampede on Wednesday. The three entities were booked under sections 105, 118 and 120 of the BNS. Most of the victims were women and young children.
The Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate has also ordered a probe into the incident. As part of the formalities, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the Directorate of Public Assurance and Regulation (DPAR), and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will be served notices.
The notices were sent to evaluate the detailed information and gather the role of various agencies in the tragedy. The News18 report stated that the state government is intent on transferring the probe to CID.
The Karnataka High Court, in turn, has issued a notice to the state government seeking an explanation over the events of Wednesday. The Karnataka HC expressed serious concern about safety and crowd management at public events. It issued a suo motu cognisance, seeking a detailed report by next week. During the hearing, the Karnataka government revealed that more than 1,000 police personnel were deployed at the venue.
Karnataka Govt, RCB announce aid
In light of the RCB stampede, the Karnataka government announced a 10 lakh aid to the families of the 11 victims. CM Siddaramaiah confirmed that all medical expenses of the injured will be taken care of by the government. IPL champions matched that and announced their regret at the events of Wednesday.
“The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief.”
