One of the biggest concerns for Team India going into the second England Test at Vizag is, Shubman Gill’s poor run of form. The talented batsman has failed to even get a fifty plus score in the last 11 innings, that has put a lot of pressure on the Indian middle-order.
Former India selector Sarandeep Singh is of the opinion that Gill is not the ideal choice for the No. 3 spot. “Gill is not a number three player. He should open. Rohit is one of the best players of spin and can drop down to accommodate Gill at the top,” Sarandeep was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, former India opener Wasim Jaffer also thought along the same lines. In a tweet, he wrote, “Gill and Jaiswal should open and Rohit should bat at no.3 in 2nd test in my opinion. Waiting to bat for his turn isn’t helping Shubman, it’s better he opens the inn. Rohit plays spin really well, so batting at no.3 should not worry him too much.”
On Wednesday, Team India batting coach Vikram Rathour was asked, if there were any plans to do so, he replied, “there are no such discussions”.
