6.36 – this was Jasprit Bumrah’s economy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In layman’s terms, he was giving away 25 runs per match from 4 overs. That’s just mind-boggling. Well, those won’t be Bumrah’s figures against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2. That’s because Josh Inglis scored 20 runs from just 6 balls against the best T20 bowler in the world.
Inglis does the impossible, thrash Bumrah
Yes, it truly happened. In a time where batters are finding it tough to score anything more than singles against Bumrah, Inglis hit 2 sixes and 2 fours in a batter of 6 balls. The wicketkeeper batter has been an extremely attacking brand of cricket at number three for Punjab. But no one expected him to thrash Bumrah.
In the four prior overs from Trent Boult and Reece Topley, 35 runs were taken. In a run chase of 204, that’s expected. But dismantling Bumrah isn’t what anyone expected. In the last MI vs PBKS match, the unorthodox pacer had claimed the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh in his very first over. He’d bowled in the powerplay as well. But the results couldn’t have been different.
What made it more special was that Bumrah didn’t deliver bad balls. Usually, he mixes his lengths and speeds. This catches batters off guard. But Inglis had no issues with Bumrah’s ball coming quickly onto the bat. He whipped him for two boundaries to balls aimed at his stumps. An off-cutter was dispatched for six over long-on. A bouncer outside the off stump flew over Topley at third man after taking an upper edge.
