According to the statement, DiasLucasBr posted an image containing offensive and insensitive content after a tough loss. Team Liquid explained that the player was attempting to express how his team “blew up” during the game by searching for an explosion GIF. The organization believes that while there was no malicious intent, DiasLucasBr made a “regrettable decision” and a “very serious lapse in judgment and awareness” by failing to recognize the imagery’s connection to a painful historical event in Japan.

Team Liquid highlighted that DiasLucasBr proactively apologized to the CAG Osaka players immediately after the post, and that the apology was accepted with understanding. While acknowledging that this doesn’t undo the harm caused, Team Liquid stated that they believe it reflects the sincerity of the mistake and the player’s remorse. The organization emphasized that had they found malicious or prejudiced intentions, DiasLucasBr would have been removed from the roster.

Reaffirming their commitment to high professional standards, Team Liquid stated that the tweet fell short of these expectations and does not reflect the organization’s values or define DiasLucasBr as an individual. They expressed their belief in giving individuals the opportunity to learn and improve, committing to providing DiasLucasBr with necessary training for personal growth.

Team Liquid extended sincere apologies to CAG Osaka for any offense caused, thanking them for their cordial dialogue and understanding. They also issued a direct apology to their fans in Japan and the Japanese esports community, acknowledging the disrespect and hurt caused and reiterating their deep respect for the people of Japan and their esports scene. The organization pledged to regain the community’s trust through their actions.
