CSK fail to chase down 200+ total again, Ravindra Jadeja & Ayush Mhatre’s highest scores go in vain

What does CSK need to do, to be able to get over this poor run of form? In the RCB clash on Saturday, the team just about did everything correct in their chase of 214 runs, but fell tantalisingly close by only two runs. At the centre of the valiant effort was 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who went bonkers with his 94-run innings in just 48 deliveries; and Ravindra Jadeja, who not only scored only his fifth IPL fifty, but also achieved his highest ever total in the tournament — 77 from 45.

Ayush Mhatre & Ravindra Jadeja Can’t Take CSK Over the Line

But alas! The team once again failed to chase down a total above 200. In fact, the team had last chased down over 180, close to six years back. The previous instance of them chasing down 180 or more in the IPL, came in 2018, when they beat SRH in Pune. Meanwhile, coming back to the IPL 2025, RCB with yet another victory have gone top of the table, and are certain to make it to the playoffs.

They barely managed to notch only their second win of the season at home, overall winning eight from 11 played, and securing 16 points. The foundations of this win were laid by Virat Kohli once again. The RCB opener went on to slam his seventh fifty of the season, and scored 62 from 33. His new opening partner Jacob Bethell was equally good as he chipped in with 55.

But the main damage was done by Romario Shepherd towards the end of the innings, blasting a fifty in just 14 balls — joint second-fastest in the league, that gave a catalyst to Bengaluru innings, to reach 213. Talking about the CSK innings, there just wasn’t much to talk about — other than Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja.

What also needs to be seen is, as many as five catches were dropped by RCB during the CSK chase, out of which Jaddu was dropped in the 11th over, 16th, 17th and 18th. Mhatre was dropped in the 16th over as well; or else perhaps Bengaluru would have won earlier.
