Till now 39 matches have taken place in IPL 2025, and most teams have already played eight encounters already. As per the points table, Shubman Gill‘s GT sits at the top with six wins in eight matches and 12 points. They are closely followed by DC, RCB, PBKS and LSG — all tied at 10. Hardik Pandya‘s MI too is slowly climbing up the ladder and isn’t far behind from these teams.
So, it becomes important to see, what these teams need to do, in order to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs. Firstly, 16 points by any team will guarantee them a spot in the next round, 14 would also do the job, while 12 points is where the NRR could come into play. InsideSport take a look at the scenarios for all the teams.
Gujarat Titans Favorites to Qualify
Although the qualification has still not come, but given GT’s tremendous form, they will most likely finish in the top 2 of the points table. Out of the remaining matches vs RR, SH, MI, DC, LSG and CSK, even if they lose a couple, it won’t hurt their chances. Two more wins will seal the deal for GT.
Delhi Capitals Will Most Likely Go Through
Three wins is all DC need with seven matches remaining. They play LSG on Tuesday, and there is a lot of things that is going well for them. One of the foremost has been Axar Patel’s leadership. If the team somehow loses form, and win just two in the next seven matches, they will still go through. And that is why it is important to get wins under your belt in the first half of the tournament. They have matches left vs LSG, RCB, KKR, SRH, PBKS, GT and MI.
Virat Kohli’s RCB in Race Too
RCB has won all their matches away from home, while at the Chinnaswamy, they have lost three in three. Now, out of their remaining six matches, the side plays four at home. That could be bothersome for them. But nonetheless, even if they win two away matches, they would have 14 points, and would be in an excellent situation make the next round.
Toss Up Between LSG and PBKS
Even though LSG and PBKS too are at 10 points, same as RCB, they have somehow not looked as good. On paper, Punjab is a stronger team and could be in the race, but consistency is the key. Having said that, both teams need to win at least 3 matches to get a guaranteed spot in the playoffs. But that is easier said than done. But the aim should be to win at least two now.
MI’s Resurgence Visible
The team started out a little slowly but has won their last three matches. With the momentum on their side and given that they are still in the race, they could make the cut. But for that they need to win at least four in the six remaining matches. Otherwise NRR will come into play for sure.
KKR, SRH, RR, CSK Not Out, But Highly Improbable
These teams have obviously dug a big hole for themselves. While KKR is on six points, SRH, RR, and CSK are on 4 each. Theoretically, none of the teams is really out, but given their poor performances, not much is expected. Let’s put it straight. KKR need to win at least 4, to be in a solid position, and that number becomes 5 for RR, SRH and CSK. The only slight advantage with Hyderabad is, they have played seven, while others have played 8.
