Come on India: Why is Nasser Hussain backing India against his own country?

Former England captain Nasser Hussain on Monday expressed his support for India in a bid to stop England skipper Ben Stokes from breaking his record as England captain. Stokes is on a roll since taking over the red-ball captaincy. He led England to a famous win in the IND vs ENG 1st Test.

Out of the 19 Tests England have played under Stokes’ captaincy, they have won 14 of them. With the victory in the IND vs ENG 1st Test, Stokes surpassed Mike Atherton’s tally of 13 wins as England captain. Stokes can go clear of Nasser Hussain with a few more wins, although that is very unlikely to happen during the IND vs ENG series.

Nasser Hussain has a record of winning 17 out of 45 Tests as England captain. If Stokes manages to whitewash India in the Test series, only then will he be able to go past Hussain’s record. Nasser Hussain on Monday took to social media to jokingly put his weight behind India in order to save his record. He retweeted a tweet on the above facts and wrote, “Come on India” along with a smiley of a worried face.

However, it should be mentioned that it was all done in good humour as the former England international will obviously be rooting for his home side when the Ben Stokes led team takes the field in the IND vs ENG series.
