Desert Vipers star Colin Munro decided to withdraw a run-out appeal against Sharjah Warriors’ Martin Guptill, in what can be labelled as the fair play moment of the ILT20 2024. Guptill, who was at the non-strikers’ end, was imminent to walk back after the ball bounced off his gloves to break the stumps. However, the Vipers’ skipper decided to withdraw the appeal, letting Guptill bat on.
ILT20: Munro gives Guptill a lifeline
The incident occurred in the 12th over when, Joe Denly – who was on strike – played a delivery off Shadab Khan. Striking the ball down the ground, Denly’s shot made contact with Guptill. As a result, the ball ricocheted off the non-strikers gloves to the stumps, running him out.
Despite the umpire ruling Guptill out, Munro decided to withdraw the decision. This gesture earned the praise of the fans. They went on to hail the sportsmanship of the Vipers’ skipper.
