Prior to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) IPL 2025 clash, almost 65 percent of LSG’s total runs were scored by their top three batters. Now, the trend continued at the Eden Gardens, with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh hammering down KKR bowlers.
Markram-Marsh connection for LSG
Lucknow staked an early claim in the match, with Markram taking the toll on the KKR bowlers right from the onset. He was exquisite in his planning to hunt down poor deliveries. At one point, Marsh was struggling a bit, scoring 14 off his first 15 balls. But then, he bludgeoned the boundaries at will.
KKR would’ve banked on their mystery spinners on a not-so-batting-friendly surface, but both the overseas openers had their day out and stitched the highest opening partnership of the IPL 2025.
The previous highest stand was made in the very first IPL 2025 match when Virat Kohli and Phil Salt of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) made 96 while chasing. LSG’s opening partnership has been a revelation this season, averaging a solid 45.2 runs. This is a massive leap from their underwhelming 23.5 average last season. A great start is setting them up for success.
