Glenn Phillips one-handed stunner ends Virat Kohli’s 300th ODI

Glenn Phillips seems to have made a habit of taking the greatest catches you’ll ever see. He’s done what he did against Pakistan in the tournament opener of the ICC Champions Trophy again. This catch might be even better, though. Phillips flew to his right and plucked the ball out of thin air. What’s better? It was Virat Kohli who he sent packing. The former Indian skipper was playing his 300th ODI, and Kohli’s dream of scoring another hundred was shattered by Glenn Phillips’ moment of brilliance.

Glenn Phillips ends Virat Kohli’s dream with a Jonty-esque catch

Kohli was looking in great touch in the India vs New Zealand match. Playing in his milestone game, the star batter entered the middle with good intent. Usually seen as a slow starter, Kohli was 11 (13). He’d gotten lucky on the previous ball (6.3 over) when the ball from Matt Henry took his edge and flowed over Phillips.

Henry bowled the next ball outside off, and Kohli cut it hard. A boundary was written. But Phillips decided to intervene. He threw himself at the ball and stunned the world crowd, his teammates, and Kohli himself. The batter stood there with a stunned face and couldn’t believe what had happened.
