Is Virat Kohli missing the first two Tests of the IND vs ENG Test series a blessing in disguise? Former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar certainly thinks so. The World Cup winner was the man who had selected Kohli to make his debut in 2008 and is now calling him missing out on an ‘opportunity’.
When asked, “How big a blow will Virat Kohli be, missing the two Test matches?”
Vengsarkar called India losing Virat Kohli a ‘slight disadvantage’. He added that Kohli is the best batter in the world and in great touch as well after his successful ODI World Cup 2023 and the recently concluded IND vs SA Test series.
“There will be a slight disadvantage definitely, there is no question about it. He’s one of the best batsmen in the world, and he’s in great form also.“

However, the former chief selector also called Virat Kohli missing out on an ‘opportunity’ for whoever takes his place. With Kohli out of the reckoning, he said that he hopes that his replacement makes full use of the chance given.
“I always look at it from the other way, since Virat is not there, someone else will get an opportunity to showcase their talent. I hope the guy who comes in grabs the opportunity with both hands.“
