Punjab CM Mohsin Naqvi set to replace Zaka Ashraf as Pakistan Cricket Board chairman

After lack of authority forced Zaka Ashraf to resign, Mohsin Naqvi, who is caretaker chief minister of Punjab province has become the new Pakistan Cricket Board chairman. He has been nominated by Pakistan’s caretaker PM Anwar ul Haq Kakar.

While PCB hasn’t yet made it official, Naqvi confirmed his appointment to the reporters.

“I will try to fix the issues affecting Pakistan cricket. Reforms in cricket are the need of the hour,” Mohsin Naqvi was quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Zaka Ashraf ended his six-month tenure on Friday, continuing what has been a musical chair in Pakistan Cricket.

“I was working for the betterment of cricket but it is not possible for us to work in this way. Now it is up to Prime Minister, whomever he nominates,” Zaka Ashraf said.

One political appointment to another making mockery of ICC’s no political/government involvement rule.

During his tenure, Pakistan Cricket Team had a sweeping change in coaching staff as well as captains. Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy with Shan Masood becoming the Test captain and Shaheen Afridi taking up the mantle in T20Is.

Since December 2022, Pakistan Cricket has had four chairpersons — Ramiz Raja, Najam Sethi, Zaka Ashraf and now Mohsin Naqvi.

However, Naqvi may not last long either as Pakistan will go for General Elections on Feb 8. And depending on the result and the Prime Minister, PCB may have a new chairman once again.
