Former India coach John Wright took an indirect dig at the BCCI selectors and gave them a warning ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. While Wright did not drop any names, it is pretty evident whom he was referring to when he said ‘players of previous reputation’ while commenting on what should be India’s direction in preparation for the marquee tournament.

India squad for Afghanistan T20Is out, Virat-Rohit return
Why return of Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma in T20Is could be a step backward?
Sharma and Kohli made their T20I comeback in the ongoing series after a gap of 14 months – their last appearance coming at the T20 World Cup 2022. While Kohli missed out on the 1st T20I and managed to get going in the 2nd, the Hitman had a miserable couple of outings, running himself out in the 1st T20I and being dismissed for a duck in the 2nd.
As India kick start their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024, it is essential for the run machines of Rohit and Virat to get oiled up and be in top form heading into the tournament. The next stop to prove their T20I prowess would be IPL 2024, the final stage of audition before the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Wright’s remarks come in the background of youngsters doing the job well for India. Young Yashasvi Jaiswal has excelled in his role as the opener while all-rounder Shivam Dube has impressed all with his batting at the depth. There are other youngsters in fray too, including Rinku Singh, the injured Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma and so on who are in serious contention for spots in India’s squad for the World Cup.
