Melbourne Renegades veteran Aaron Finch retired from the Big Bash League (BBL) on Saturday (January 13). The former Aussie skipper received a grand reception in his farewell match. Meanwhile, the Melbourne Renegades decided to retire his jersey No.5. It was also the first time that a jersey in the BBL was retired.
The venue also had written, “Thank You Finchy” on the stands all around. Aaron Finch’s daughter Esther was also present with her father at the Marvel Stadium. The entire stadium was painted in red, the colour of Renegades, to honour Finch. “It’s time to move on and the next generation of players coming through is seriously good, so it’s in good hands,” Finch was quoted as saying before the match against the Stars.

“I haven’t got emotional around any of my retirements, which is quite strange. But maybe tomorrow I will. This has been a huge part of mine and my family’s life for the last 13 years and have put as much time and effort into it as I can and, yeah, it’ll be sad, no doubt. But it’s time to move on and the next generation of players coming through are seriously good. So it’s in good hands,” Finch added.
