Prolific Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw set the field on fire with his blazing 379-run knock on this day in 2023 in a Ranji Trophy game against Assam. Snubbed from the international side, the right-handed batter was hell bent to prove himself in first-class cricket and did so rightfully on that fateful day.
Shaw’s slow paced yet gritty knock set the tone for Mumbai, who went on to beat Assam by a huge margin. The batter’s 379-run knock was studded with 49 boundaries and and four sixes, making it the second highest Ranji Trohpy score of all time. It is also the second highest first class score by an Indian ever.

Shaw was finally dismissed by Riyan Parag as he was trapped for an LBW, bringing the curtains down on an iconic innings. Mumbai ended their first innings after declaring at 687 for the loss of 4 wickets. Assam were bundled out for for 370 runs in their 1st innings and were forced to bat again after follow on was enforced.
Mumbai then clinically wrapped up the game by bowling out Assam for 189 runs, with Shardul Thakur grabbing three wickets. Shaw’s team won the game by an innings and 128 runs.
