The first round of the Ranji Trophy 2024 concluded on Monday, and there were a few performances/ results, that hogged the limelight. Insidesport takes a look at all important events after each team has played one match apiece.
Puducherry Blows Away Delhi
The Yash Dhull-led Delhi were handed a shock defeat by little-known Puducherry, who won the encounter by nine wickets. The star of the match was medium-pacer Gaurav Yadav, who picked up 10 wickets in the match, to dismiss a strong-looking Delhi side, that had the presence of India caps, Ishant Sharma and Navdeep Saini. In the first innings, Delhi was bowled out for 148, and in the second, for 145. Puducherry were set a target of 51, that they achieved easily.
Mumbai Wins, Sarfaraz Khan’s Rare Failure
On a wicket that had a lot of assistance for bowlers, the Mumbai vs Bihar encounter was a low-scoring affair. Mumbai scored 251 in the first innings, with Bhupen Lalwani top-scoring with 65. Sarfaraz Khan, who has an average of over 70 in first-class, saw a rare failure, and was dismissed for 1. Apart from that there were no major surprises, as Bihar was bowled out for 100, twice, with Mohit Avasthi and Shivam Dube bagging most wickets.
Arjun Tendulkar Unimpressive as Goa Lose to Tripura
It was a forgettable outing for Goa and Arjun Tendulkar, as the team lost by 237 runs, and the latter had a mediocre game overall. In the entire match, Tendulkar junior bagged only two wickets, and scored 21 runs. Meanwhile, after being set a target of 500, Goa was bundled out for 263, with K Siddharth scoring 151.

Riyan Parag’s Innings of a Lifetime Goes in Vain
Assam lost to Chhattisgarh by 10 wickets. But not before new skipper Riyan Parag showed he is a class apart from rest of his teammates. The Rajasthan Royals regular an 87-ball 155, that included 11 fours and 12 sixes, to give his team something to cheer about. But a poor first innings score of 159 meant, the team could only set a target of 87 for Chhattisgarh. The latter achieved the target in 20 overs, and without any casualty.
