WATCH classy Kohli ask Newlands crowd to bow down to Dean Elgar after his final Test inning

South African skipper Dean Elgar was bestowed with immense respect from both Proteas and Indian players as he walked back to the pavilion following his dismissal in the second innings of the IND vs SA 2nd Test at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Having announced that this would be his last series before retirement, Virat Kohli made sure that the left-handed batsman received the respect he deserved.

During his final innings in international cricket, Dean Elgar scored 12 runs before falling victim to Mukesh Kumar. While Mukesh celebrated the wicket, Virat Kohli ensured that the stand-in South African captain received a fitting farewell. Kohli urged the crowd to bow down as Elgar walked back to the dugout.

Mukesh Kumar secured two wickets, and Jasprit Bumrah scalped one as South Africa concluded Day 1 at 62 for 3, trailing India by 36 runs. Although Elgar and Aiden Markram provided a solid start in their second innings, Mohammed Siraj’s six-wicket haul (6 for 15) played a crucial role in India bowling out South Africa for a meagre total. Bumrah and Mukesh also claimed two wickets each in the first innings. Despite the pitch offering significant bounce, the hosts put up a poor show with the bat.

In response, India, who were looking strong at 153 for 4 at one point, experienced a batting collapse, losing their last six wickets for zero runs in 11 balls. The Rohit Sharma-led side were bowled out, taking a 98-run lead.
