It was the start of what was a legendary career on this day for Australia spin wizard Shane Warne as he made his Test debut at the SCG in 1992. Little did anyone know at that point that Warnie would go on to spin teams into miseries for decades, adding over 700 wickets to his name. The Aussie spinner made his debut against India in the 3rd Test of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) which commenced on January 2, 1992.
When the legendary Warne spin tale began
Young Warne’s first Test wicket was none other than former Indian coach Ravi Shastri, who also happened to be adjudged the Man of the Match for that game. On the downside, the spin wizard managed to get just one scalp under his belt while bowling 45 overs in the game and conceding 109 runs. Shastri, Warne’s first scalp, top-scored in the game with a 206-run knock and supplemented it with a four-wicket haul.
