Explosive Australia opener David Warner announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs), days ahead of his final Test at the SCG. The southpaw capped off his ODI career with the World Cup 2023 triumph.

“I’ve got to give back to the family,” Warner said during his announcement.
“That (ODI retirement) was something I had said through the World Cup, get through that and winning that in India is a massive achievement.”
“I know there’s a Champions Trophy coming up and if I’m playing decent cricket still in two years’ time and they need someone, I’m going to be available.”
In 159 ODI innings, Warner has ammassed 6,932 runs averaging 45.30 in career which has spanned over a decade. The Australia made his ODI debut against South Africa in 2009 and has gone on to be a vital part of the side’s white-ball format squad. The southpaw is also a two-time World Cup winner.
The opener’s retirement from ODIs comes as a surprise for fans and cricketers who were expecting to see Warner play his last Test in the 3rd PAK vs AUS game in Sydney.
