Zimbabwe Cricket on Thursday suspended two of its players for the use of ‘recreational drugs’. The players in question are Wesley Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta. “The concerned players, Wesley Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta, both tested positive for a banned recreational drug in an out-of-competition case recorded during a recent in-house doping test,” the board said in a statement.
Both the players are suspended with immediate effect, until a hearing on the same is conducted. But this is another blow for the team after the coach Dave Houghton resigned after their failure to reach the T20 World Cup 2024. “They have been charged under the Zimbabwe Cricket Code of Conduct for players and team officials and will appear for a disciplinary hearing soon,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Madhevere is one of the most promising talents from Zimbabwe and has already played 36 ODIs and 60 T20Is for his team. On the other hand, Mavuta has an experience of four Tests, 12 ODIs, and 10 T20Is.
