Another IPL Auction is here. And it is the last mini-auction before the mega one next year as has been the case in a three-year cycle. Even though many franchises have repeatedly asked for a long-term player contract instead of an auction, BCCI hasn’t budged. The auction is as popular as the league and will continue to remain so for the foreseeable future. And that brings us to IPL 2024 Auction.
Hence, what is changing though is the venue. For the first time, IPL Auction is going overseas with Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai playing the host.
But away from the hullabaloo of numbers and potential big-money moves, the auction is a difficult one for the franchises. At mini-auctions, franchises tend to go overboard. Historically, mini-auctions have been players benefitting with big contracts. For example, Sam Curran, Cameron Green and Ben Stokes went for over Rs 15 crore each in the last auction.
This time, a total of 330 players are at the auction pool with franchises needing to fill in only 77. But with a mega auction coming up, the focus of the IPL 2024 Auction will be to go for quick short-term fixes before a squad overhaul next year. And to do that, franchises have a total of Rs 262.95 Crore available to spend at the auction. For the auction, BCCI has shortlisted 330 players including 116 overseas players after the withdrawal of Rehan Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed.

There are only 77 slots available including 30 overseas slots

Gujarat Titans will go with Rs 38.15 Cr at the auction, the highest
Kolkata Knight Riders will have 12 slots to fill, the highest
