The Sri Lanka cricket team has decided to go all-in ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. With just a month left before the mega-event in the USA and West Indies, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to bring in Wasim Akram to help improve their pace bowling.
The Pakistani great arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (May 1) to conduct five sessions at the SLC pace academy to help the Sri Lanka pacer and help train high-performance coaches (HPC) and coaches of other major clubs during a 2-day camp. The camp will start on Thursday (May 2, as the SLC starts a 3-team T20 practice tournament to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024.
“In total, Akram will conduct five sessions, covering the SLC pace academy, HPC, and major club coaches. He will also observe Sri Lanka’s national players’ preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” the SLC said.

The SLC has decided to conduct an intra-squad team competition. Three teams (Yellow, Red, and Green) consisting of 14 players each will go toe-to-toe to prepare for the mega-event. Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga will lead ‘Team Yellow’, southpaw batter Charith Asalanka ‘Team Red’, and Janith Liyanage ‘Team Green’.
