7 players to get inducted into ICC Hall of Fame just 2 days before WTC Final

In what promises to be a fitting prelude to cricket’s biggest red-ball clash of the year (WTC Final), the International Cricket Council (ICC) will induct seven new icons into the ICC Hall of Fame on Monday, June 9—just two days before the World Test Championship (WTC) Final between South Africa and Australia at Lord’s.

The latest class of inductees will feature five men and two women, all of whom have been handpicked for their extraordinary impact on the game. The event, titled “A Day with the Legends”, will be broadcast live across ICC’s global broadcast network and is set to feature some of the sport’s most unforgettable names.

Jay Shah’s ode to legends

The new inductees have been selected by a panel comprising existing ICC Hall of Famers, cricket historians, journalists, and senior officials from the global cricketing body. Each of the seven legends will be awarded commemorative Hall of Fame caps as part of the ceremony.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah put the moment into perspective, saying, “Inducting legends into the ICC Hall of Fame is our way of honouring the game’s most extraordinary contributors. This accolade is reserved exclusively for those whose achievements have left an indelible mark on the sport, and each selection is made purely on merit.”

The induction ceremony begins at 4:30 PM BST (9:00 PM IST) as cricket royalty takes the stage ahead of one of the most awaited Test matches in recent memory.
